Friday FOIA Fun: The Green Berets
Last month, I posted portions of the FBI file of the late Robin Moore, author of the bestselling 1965 novel The Green Berets. At that time, I mentioned that a portion of the FBI file on Moore had been “referred” to “another agency” for review. Since the documents in question had to do with the sensitive information “leaked” in The Green Berets, I guessed the Defense Intelligence Agency, or DIA, might be the folks involved - and hazarded a guess that it might be five years or so before I got a response from them. (DIA’s FOIA processing is slower than something that’s very slow, trying to move uphill through deep taffy on a very cold day.)
Happily, I was wrong - the records were actually sent to the U.S. Army’s Intelligence and Security Command, or INSCOM, and they reviewed the records in, um, record time, releasing them to me in largely unredacted form this week.
