The Get Out Clause: Twisted, Brilliant, or Both?

Via The Wisconsin Sunbeam, comes the tale of The Get Out Clause, a band – literally – of creative folks over in the UK, who gave a public performance of one of their new songs, then promptly requested surveillance-camera footage of the event under the Freedom of Information law. Having gotten it, they then edited it into a music video for their song. It’s either the most brilliant mockery of Britain’s surveillance society yet, a bit of incredibly thrifty twisted genius, or both. It’s a Miracle!

Reading the St. Paul Pioneer Press this morning, my attention was grabbed by a headline in the local “St. Paul” section. That, of course, is the purpose of headlines – to grab readers’ attention. However, I’m not sure this one worked quite as the paper might have intended:

Boy’s condition improves after second-story fall

Not to sound too much like a pedant, or a Grammar Nazi(tm), but there are at least a few better ways to phrase that headline…

The article isn’t online, for whatever reason, only in the dead-tree edition. It always confuses me when they do that; surely the website should contain stuff they couldn’t fit in the print edition – rather than the print edition containing stuff they couldn’t fit on the website. Ah, well…
