In the days since I first posted photos of the crash scene of the Turkish AN-26 that was destroyed outside of Balad, Iraq back in 2007, those posts have attracted quite a bit of attention, as the number of comments show. As I feared, the photos raise more questions than they answer about the plane, its activities, and the cause of its demise. Still, I bow to pressure, and today am posting a handful more images - ones which show, among other things, just how close to the airbase the crash took place.

Apparently, coffee lovers (I am not one) sing the praises of a variety of coffee whose beans are “harvested”, half-digested, from the scat of Indonesia’s civet cat.

Let’s leave aside for a moment three big mind-boggling things, here - that someone first came up with the idea, that there was some poor sod who first had this beverage thrust upon him, and that some people are evidently willing to pay $100 for a cup of coffee - and concentrate on what I feel is the essential bit of take-away knowledge to be learned from this story:

In Indonesia, apparently, there are folks whose jobs involve finding and collecting civet cat poo, and sieving out the inexplicably valuable beans from it. Please try to keep this in mind, the next time you feel compelled to complain about how bad your job is…
