I wrote yesterday about the horrors of receiving a box of “pasteurized process cheese spread” from Hickory Farms as a holiday gift. Well, as my partner was breaking up the box and getting ready to throw it (and the contents) away, we found the “nutritional” information sheet, which also lists the ingredients in each product. A prominent if eccentric law-enforcement officer in England is raising eyebrows - and taking flak - for suggesting that ecstasy is safer to take than aspirin, as are numerous other controlled substances. Obviously, this stance is very, very popular with a certain segment of the population; that doesn’t change the fact that - like nearly every other idea for the legalization of this or that drug - it’s fatally and fundamentally flawed…

I’m not going to debate or argue drug policy. I do find it very interesting, though, that you can now legally buy absinthe here in Minnesota, should you want to. I don’t expect it to sell well once the novelty wears off, except perhaps to college students, who seem to have a terrific capacity for drinking themselves to death.
