Threat and Local Observation Notice (TALON)

The military’s TALON system generated a lot of attention a few years ago, amid allegations that the military was “spying” on anti-war groups as diverse as Food Not Bombs and the Quakers. (Yes, the religous group.) Amid all the other questions raised, a few people apparently wondered whether such force-protection measures – the sharing of information about potential threats to military and government assets, domestic or otherwise – might be in violation of FISA.

Cleaning Scratched Optics

Mind you, I’m not necessarily endorsing you try this out on your $1200 Hasselblad lens, let alone a $3500 Schneider Apo-Envygon, but I discovered a little something that might help to breathe new life into old, cheap, scratched camera lenses, binoculars, or other optics you might have around the house. I make no guarantees about the process, and present this purely as information. Got it?
