The government and the military have in the past received a lot of criticism for their rampant overclassification and, every bit as annoyingly, pseudoclassification, of records and documents. We’re all pretty familiar with the common, widespread terms - For Official Use Only, for example - and the wide variety of supposedly superceded markings - Eyes Only, No Foreign Dissemination. Then there was the stuff people just made up to sound important - “Law Enforcement Sensitive” and “Sensitive But Unclassified” are two that come immediately to mind.

A lot of people who’ve never seen the movie M*A*S*H aren’t aware that the instantly-recognizable theme song of the long-running television show actually has lyrics - or, indeed, that “Suicide is Painless” is about, yes, suicide.

Suicide may be painless, but not to our military, who lose a small but relatively consistent number of people to it every year, and which has devoted considerable resources over the last decade to trying to improve the situation without much success.
