What’s In a Name?
It’s easy and convenient to attach labels to things, to create a private shorthand, or even, in extremes, a form of “newspeak” or “doublespeak”. While “urban explorer” is always going to be a more popular label than “recreational trespasser”, it’s occasionally important to remember nobody has a monopoly on the term. Faced with the possibility of accidentally identifying one’s self as homeless, or whatever else one might think the term means, it’s easy to see why the coy explorer sometimes comes up with other euphemisms (my favorite still remains photographers-slash-historians-slash-explorers.)
