It’s the Media, Stupid

Though I took flack from an illiterate goon for saying it before, and as much as I dislike John Aravosis’ self-importance and constant begging for money, I have to agree with him on the joke our media has become, as (most recently) displayed in their rabid coverage of 2006’s biggest (to date) non-story, The Guy Who Didn’t Kill The Girl With The Dumb Name. They’re the ones who made a media circus mountain out of a molehill. The media. Not Colorado’s attorney general, not some district attorney somewhere, the media. It’s really that simple.

Nobody cares about JonBenet Ramsey. Nobody cares about John Karr. In a few years, Karr is going to be just like the security guard at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, a completely-forgotten one-time-suspect for a crime he didn’t commit, but was judged guilty by that all-important arbiter, the media. I’m not saying Karr’s a great guy; after all, he’s facing child pr0n charges in California. On the other hand, just forty-eight hours ago, he was facing murder charges in Colorado, and we all know how that turned out, so who am I to judge?

Not some over-coiffed talking head on the local Six O’clock Noise, that’s for sure. 🙂
