Urban Explorers - Into the Darkness

Excellent news for local urban exploration fans - filmmaker Melody Gilbert’s excellent UE documentary Into the Darkness will make it’s official premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California, which runs 28 February to 11 March.

Melody’s evidently quite excited; Cinequest is the first major festival held after the Academy Awards, and is evidently considered something of a big event in the world of independant filmmaking, with more than 50,000 in attendance in recent years.

Like all film festivals, a lot of films get shown over the two weeks (180 in 2005); it’s hard to say how much “buzz” the urban exploration documentary will generate, but we can all hope, obviously, that it gets a deservedly wide audience. The schedule hasn’t been announced yet; I’m not sure if a premiere date early in the festival is something to wish for, or if a later screening is desirable. Either way, it’ll hopefully generate some good reviews, and come to the attention of all the “right” people.

Rumor has it there will be a “local” premiere in Minneapolis shortly thereafter; dates, times, and so on will be provided when we glean them from the aether (or wheedle them out of Melody, whichever comes first).

Congratulations, Melody; you go, girl!
