Western Media

I hope every western media outlet feels embarassed right now. They should, the way they got played on the whole John Mark Karr thing. Two weeks of nonstop JonBenet Ramsey this, JonBenet Ramsey that… nobody with two clues cares, but they just kept on and on and on about it. And – shocker of shockers – there’s no evidence against him, and charges have been dropped. HAH!

Maybe the parents did it after all. Maybe, and this has always been my theory, you shouldn’t give children ridiculously stupid names like “JonBenet” in the first place, lest they become spastic ADD/ADHD poster children, maladjusted drug users… or exploited and unattractive beauty-pageant darlings whose messed-up mother one day snaps because she’s a worthless failure, and up and kills the little thing.

I hated having to see his/her/it’s ugly face everywhere a decade ago, and I’ve really hated having to see it all over again these past two weeks. Newsflash; I don’t care about stupid, dead children…

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

this is not about the media. Why are you blaiming the media. Your a moron. The media only showed what the american public wanted to hear. you can see that in the ratings that the networks got during the coverage. if noone watched the news, they would not have shown it. im pretty sure you watched it too. about half the country watched the news, hoping that this was the guy. everyone should be mad at the Colorado DA for paying his plane ticket in first class to come home.

No, Chris-I-can’t-be-bothered-to-use-caps, it’s very much about the media. The first time around, ten years ago, it was every bit as much a media circus as the OJ case, and the second time around it wasn’t much better.

Ugly children with stupid named die every day in this country. Every day. And, unless the media tells people to, nobody except friends, family, and neighbors cares. Nobody. But then it’s a slow news week, or the media decides it’s consumers need a break from all the other vapid, content-poor garbage they’ve been peddling, and decides to make a mountain out of a dead blond molehill.

You know what news I watch, chris-with-a-lowercase-c? The BBC news. The BBC news which, I might add, has mercifully failed to provide real-time updates of John Karr’s whereabouts, which has failed to keep me abreast of his every action via a constantly-updated ticker at the bottom of the screen and twice-hourly updates. Instead, they’ve been reporting on – and I realize this may be a difficult idea to understand – important things. Things that have the potential to affect more than a handful of people. Things I can be persuaded to care about – unlike ten-year-old murder cases no different than thousands of others.

Colorado voters can and no doubt will make their displeasure with the DA involved known, and perhaps upcoming elections and political realignments will resolve any problems that exist.

If you’ve got any great ideas on how to get rid of the problem that is an overhyped infotainment media industry, I’m sure people would love to hear it.
