And now for something completely different.
From the archives of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation comes an interesting bit of nostalgia from late 1958 – an extremely entertaining radio tour of the “Big Apple” in all its audio glory. Called “A Walk in New York”, the roughly hour-long, slice-of-life program is narrated – in a slightly over-the-top fashion that I find very reminiscent of Dragnet – by a then relatively Canadian actor named Les Nielsen.
Surely my readers know who Leslie Nielsen is, right?
Of course you do – the man who became famous in the Naked Gun movies, and Airplane!, and various other films of the 1980s. (And, yes, I know; don’t call you ‘Shirley’.)
Anyway, if you’re a Leslie Nielsen fan, a fan of New York City, or just a fan of nostalgia and history, you’ll probably want to check it out. You can download the MP3 file here (54 minutes, 57 megabytes, 160kbps VBR MP3 file).
