Mouser Week X: 31 Jan – 8 Feb 2009

A couple days ago, I posted about the arrest of a local urban explorer in a storm drain beneath the city, and how the media were labeling him a “mouser”. In that post, I mentioned that the next Mouser Week – a semi-annual get-together for urban explorers from all over the country – was coming up shortly, as it usually happens this time of year. Seeing as how Mouser Week is a public event, and the next one was mentioned on the news, I linked to the only public announcement I could quickly find, which gave dates, contact details, et cetera.

As a reader pointed out, that announcement has disappeared, which seems rather stupid. So, thanks to the magic of the internet, I’ve made it re-appear, in a way, below.

If you visit this link now, all you’ll see is this:

What? You thought deleting the post was going to make the whole thing go away? Silly mousers, er, urban explorers. On the internet, very, very little is ever deleted for good.

If you’d like to read the original announcement of Mouser Week X, just click here. If you’re in a hurry, and just want the basics, here you go:

“Details so far:
When: Jan 31-Feb 8 [2009]
What: Badass exploring meet-up. Past ones have had around 60+ attendees from multiple states/countries.
Where: In, around, and under Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Urban Explorers – or mousers, if you’re a well-meaning but fundamentally clueless media personality – are basically, in the words of the late, great Douglas Adams, mostly harmless. You wouldn’t think folks who lurk around in sewers, caves, mines, tunnels, and abandoned buildings – with cameras – would be all that interesting, but it seems like every time you turn around, the local media are covering some aspect of the hobby. Like most other things in life, that appears an unfathomable mystery, at least to me.

Anyway, that’s when Mouser Week #10 is: January 31st through February 8th, 2009. (More like Mouser Weeks, but nevermind.) Why “they” have decided to try and hide this information, now, I have no idea. I mean, they way they’re carrying on, you’d think urban exploration was illegal, or something…
